Ischemic Heart Disease Flashcards
What are the signs and symptoms of IHD?
chest pain, SOB, fatigue, sweating, n/v, neck jaw shoulder or arm pain
What are the causes of IHD?
atherosclerosis, obesity, diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol, lack of physical activity
What is the pathophysiology of IHD?
ineffective myocardial oxygen perfusion
myocardial demand is greater than oxygen supply
risk of heart muscle damage/necrosis
damaged heart muscles behave ineffectively
at risk of arrhythmias
may lead to a cardiac arrest
What are some nursing interventions and rationale for IHD?
Administer GTN as prescribed to dilate the blood vessels and
increase the blood flow through the heart
Administer morphine as prescribed - to reduce the patients pain level and enable the patient to mobilise
Educate the patient on a healthy diet to reduce the risk of developing IHD
