IRT Questions Flashcards
How long before taxi should you file your airways flight plan?
At least 1 hour
Within what time bracket must you enter the airway.
What should you do if you are outside this bracket but less than 30 mins outside?
What should you do if you would enter the airway outside of 30 mins of the filed time?
Enter within +-3 mins of filed time.
Inform ATC.
Re-file flight plan.
How should you join the airway if told “cleared to join at”?
Hit the airway at a 90 degree angle, within +-10nm of the specified point.
How should you join the airway if told “cleared to join on track”?
Achieve the required track below the airway, then climb once point underflown.
How should you join the airway if told “cleared to join on track at”?
The join point is at a point where the airway steps down. Manoeuvre in the class G airspace so that you are on track, on height as you cross into the airway.
What should you do if you do not yet have clearance from the controlling authority as you approach the airway?
Orbit outside the airway until clearance gained.
What speed should you transit the airway at?
0.65M
What AoB should you use for significant turns in an airway?
45 degrees AoB
State the rule of thumb for the AoB required to achieve a rate 1 turn.
AoB required = (TAS/10) +7
What does each deviation dot represent for the following steering modes:
VOR
TACAN
ILS
VOR: 4 degrees
TACAN: 4 degrees
ILS: 1.25 degrees.
When do you need to apply an Altimeter Temperature Correction to an approach procedure?
How much correction is required?
Where can this correction be found?
When aerodrome temperature is below 0 degrees.
+4ft per 1000ft of elevation per degree of difference from ISA.
The FIH (yellow book).
What are the arcing limits for a TACAN approach?
+-1nm
What is the radial tolerance required to continue approach from the intermediate fix for a TACAN approach?
5 degrees.
What is the maximum speed when within 10nm of the TACAN hold joining point?
230kts.
What is the maximum drift that allows the hold to be flyable?
10 degrees.
What azimuth deflection must you be within to continue a TACAN descent from the FAF?
Within half scale deflection.
State the requirements for VMC when:
Above FL100.
Between 3000ft and FL100.
Below 3000ft.
In all cases:
1500m horizontally clear of cloud.
1000ft vertically clear of cloud.
8km vis. Check this.
Note: vis requirement reduced to 5km below 10000ft if slower than 250kts.
What approach category is the Hawk T2?
What about when flapless?
C
E
Describe the following types of airspace: A B C D E F G
A: Airways and TMAs (e.g. Heathrow/ Brum/ Manchester).
B: Not used in UK.
C: Upper airspace (FL195 - FL660).
D: Control Zones (CTR) and Control Areas (CTAs)
E: Belfast TMA, ATS routes in Scotland.
F: Not used in UK.
G: All remaining airspace below FL195.
What are the maximum pitch and bank angles that the AP can sustain?
Up to 30 degrees in pitch, 60 degrees AoB.
