Ipratropium - Mechanism of action
Is a bronchodilator.
Anticholinergic agent. It antagonises acetylcholine receptors, causing vagal inhibition resulting in bronchodilation.
Ipratropium - Indications
Bronchospasm secondary to CORD or asthma.
Prominent bronchospasm secondary to airway burns or smoke inhalation or chest infection.
Ipratropium - Contraindications
Known severe allergy

None.

0.5mg nebulised
Ipratropium - Common side effects
[DBT]
Tachycardia.
Dry mouth.
Blurred vision.
Ipratropium - Onset of effect
2-5 minutes.
Ipratropium - Duration of effect
6 hours
Ipratropium - Preparation
Ampoule containing 0.5mg in 2ml
Ipratropium - Repeats
None. Administer once.
