Paracetamol - Mechanism of action
Inhibits the production of prostaglandins, resulting in a reduction of pain and fever.
It is metabolised in the liver.
Paracetamol - Indications
Mild or moderate pain, usually in combination with other medicines.
May be administered with other medicines for severe pain if transport time is long.
Paracetamol - Contraindications
Known severe allergy.
Paracetamol - Cautions
Patient has taken paracetamol in last 4 hours.
Abdominal pain, esp if unwell or vomiting.
Known severe liver disease.
Paracetamol - Dosage
1.5g PO for adult greater than 80kg.
1 g PO for adult 80kg or less.

None.
Paracetamol - Onset of effect
30-60 minutes
Paracetamol - Duration of effect
4 - 6 hours.
Paracetamol - Preparation
500mg tablets.
Syrup containing 50mg/ml.
