Glucagon - mechanism of action
Increases blood glucose level by stimulating the breakdown of glycogen into glucose (glycogenolysis), predominantly in the liver, and excreted in the liver.
Glucagon - Indications
Hypoglycaemia when the patient cannot swallow glucose/food and IV access cannot be obtained.
Glucagon - Contraindications
Known severe allergy.
Glucagon - Cautions
None.
Glucagon - Dosage
1mg IM for adult or child aged 5 or over.
0.5mg IM for a child aged under 5.
Administer IM in lateral thigh.

5-10 minutes

15-60 minutes

Ampoule containing 1mg as powder.
