Introduction & Organization Flashcards
Anatomy
Deals with the form and structure of the body and it’s parts. What and where
Physiology
Deals with the functions of the body and its parts. How and what they do.
Levels of Organization
Cells, Tissues, Organs and Organ Systems
Cells
Are the basic functional units of life; The smallest subdivisions of the body
Tissues
A specialized group of cells
Types of Tissues
Epithelial, Connective, Muscle and Nervous
Epithelial Tissue
Cover the body surfaces, secrete materials and absorb materials
Connective Tissue
Holds the body together and gives it support
Muscle Tissue
Moves the body inside and out
Nervous Tissue
Transmits info around the body and controls body functions
Organs
Are made up of groups of tissues that work together for a common purpose
Organ Systems
The most complex level of body organization; a group of organs involved in a common set of activities
Characteristics of Life
Organization, Metabolism, Responsiveness, Growth, Differentiate and Reproduction
Homeostasis
The maintenance of a dynamic equilibrium in the body; keeping balance; maintaining a constant environment
Negative Feedback
Is the main feedback; when a deviation occurs, response makes deviation smaller and closer to normal (thermostat)
