Intro To Patho Flashcards
Pathophysiology
Study of disease
Pathogensis
How the disease process evolves
Etiology
Causes of disease ( biological, physical, chemical, nutritional)
Factor’s That Affect the Body’s Ability to Adapt
- age
- health status
- rapidity with which adaptivity occurs
- ability of body to select appropriate response
Incidence
Number of new cases arising in a population at risk during a specified time
Prevalence
Measure of existing disease in a population at a chosen time
Epidemiology
Study of disease occurrence in human population
Morbidity
The effects an illness has on a person’s life
Mortality
Causes of death in a given population
Primary Prevention
Reduces risk factors so disease not occur (eg. immunizations)
Secondary Prevention
Detects the disease while it is still curable (eg. Pap smears)
Tertiary Prevention
Prevents further deterioration or complications from existing disease (eg. Antibiotics)
