Intro to Microscopy Flashcards
The ocular (eyepiece) lens magnifies the specimen how much?
10x
What are magnifications of the objective lenses?
4x
10x
40x
100x
With a compound microscope, what lenses are used simultaneously?
Ocular and objective lens
What is total magnification?
The product of the ocular and objective lens magnification:
If you are using 40x objective, then multiply that by the 10x ocular lens and your total magnification is 400x
What is you scanning power objective lens? What is it good for?
4x - red band around it
Total magnification 40x
Good for looking at histopath tissues (focal area of inflammation)
What is your low power objective lens? What is it good for?
10x - yellow band around it
Total magnification 100x
Good for looking at histopath tissues with moderate detail and for fecal examinations
What is your high dry power objective lens? What is it good for?
40x - blue band around it
Total magnification 400x
Good for confirmation and detailed examination of helminth eggs, larvae, protozoa, and histopath at cellular level
Also useful for examination of general morphology of bacteria and yeasts
What is the only lens used with immersion oil?
100x - white band around it
When switching to 100x oil immersion objective, do you lower the stage?
NO
When toggling between objectives, what is the only thing that should need adjusted?
Fine focus
