When to call for EMS
- Unconsciouss or altered LOC
- difficulty/ no signs of breathing
- Persistent chest pain or pressure
- no signs of circulation
- deadly bleeding
- seizures, severe headache, slurred speach
- Injuries to the head neck or back
- blood in vomit/stool/urine
- imminent childbirth
What aspects influence are decision to act in an emergency scenerio
- other people at the scene
- The ill or injured person
- unpleasant injuries or illness
- catching a disease
- doing something wrong
Where does the good Samaritan act come into play
only when OUT of office
What is neglegence + what are the 4 things that must be satisfied
The failure to follow a reasonable set standard of care, thereby causing injury or damage to another

What must you do for consent in an emergency situation (4)
- identify yourself
- Give your lvl of training
- Explain what u think may be wrong
- explain your plan
- the pt can withdrawal care at anytime
- no specific age to give or reject care
What is implied consent in an emergency situation
A person who is inconscious, confused or seriously ill or injured may not be able to consent and the law assume the person would if they could
(also implies to minors)
Refusal of care issues
Even though the person may be seriously injured, you should honour their refusal of care, You can still call EMS even if they tell you not to
