Cardiac II + Wounds Flashcards
What is two rescuer CPR
Share the responsibilities of rescue breathing and chest compressions (1 person does the breathhs, 1 does the compressions)
For child what ratio of compressions to breath should u do and when should u switch pos
15:2
Switch pos every 2 mins or 5 cycles of CPR to maintain high quality compressions
if two rescuers begin CPR together what should their roles be
1 does primary survey, 2nd gets into pos
1st indicate start of CPR following pulse check
When CPR is in progress by one rescuer only what shouldn’t 2nd do when coming on scene
- 2nd rescuer asks if EMS/911 has been called (if not call)
- 2nd then either replaces 1st or assists
Resuscitation masks advantages
- increase flow rate to lungs (goes thru nose + mouth)
- Can provide good seal
- permits easy delivery of supplemental oxygen
- reduces possibility of disease transmission
What are bag valve mask resuscitators used for
Primarily used to ventilate a non breathing casualty
What are bag valve mask resuscitators used for
Primarily used to ventilate a non breathing casualty A
Advantages of bag valve mask resusitators
-delivers a higher conc of O2 than that delivered during mouth to mouth or mask to mouth rescue breathing
disadvantages of bag valve mask
- cant be used by one person
- needs reg practice
- may take longer to assemble
how much o2 does rescue breathing provide
about 16% O2
what type of pt can receive suplemental o2
Any patient w shortness of breath or chest pain
who can you administer o2 for
SOB
chest pain/heart attack
breathing difficulties
altered LOC
precessions for use of oxygen
- do not operate oxygen equiptment around an open flame
- dont stand o2 up straight
How many litres/min should u use for non rebreather mask or if using BVM
10l/min
nasal cannula has a peak concentration of
roughly 36% o2
what os the peak concentration of non rebreather mask
peak conc of 90% o2
added o2 with resuscitation mask and bag valve mask
resuscitation- can add an additional 50%
BVM- can get ind 100% ox
What is an oropharyngeal airway
a device inserted in the mouth of UNCONSIOUS victim and pos to keep the tongue out of back of throat
how long should u use a suction device for at one point
suction for no more than 10sec at a time
what is acute compartment syndrome
due to direct injury or trauma, most commonly in the thigh/upper arm
bleeding within the fascial sheath causes increased pressure within sheath causing severe pain an distal symptoms
first aid for bruises/contusions
Check- scene for danger call- EMS/911 if necessary Care-ABCs Secondary- cool area and help reduce pain + swelling -can also compression wrap
What are the 4 main types of open wounds
abrations
lacerations
avulsions
amputatoons
what is an avulsion
Injury in which a portion of the skin and sometimes other soft tissue is partially or completely torn away
First aid for abrations, lacerations and avulsions
Check: scene Call: EMS Care -gloves -make sure ABCs -keep calm and tx for shock secondary: -Direct pressure on wound -wash wound with soap water -keep adding dressings
first aid for punctures
Check- Scene
Call- EMS
Care- ABCs
Secondary-
Place direct pressure, clean wound, bandage
LEAVE object in unless it impedes CRP
-place bulky things around object so it don’t move
