Small vs large group functioning. Small groups (8-10) generated more warmth/intimacy/support; avoidance of confrontation; more work behaviors; and less aggression.
Large groups (27) lower participation, warmth/intimacy/support; lower work behaviors; more aggression. increased group size has negative effect on participation, cohesion, productivity

Joining groups changes self concept/self-esteem and may be facilitated by rituals

Forsyth and Burnette (2010)
Discusses a groups capacity to transform its members and lead them to act out of character, the tendency for groups to create consistencies among the relationships of members, with the result that communication, influence, and even attraction become patterned and predictable;
5 stages of group formation: Forming (group members become oriented); Storming (group member conflict); Norming (standards for bx and roles develop to regulate bx); performing (reaching a point where group can work as a unit to achieve goals); Adjourning (group disbands)
