Internet Connection Types Flashcards
What is generally the fastest/highest data transfer rate type of internet connection type you can get? (assuming all are physically available to you)
Fibre optic - data travels at the speed of light/different data streams use different colours of light.
What are some problems of Satellite Networks/Communication?
High latency (ms) - as the data has to travel to the extra terrestrial satellite (in space/orbit) and back down to the Earth’s surface.
High cost as satellites require a rocket to launch them into space.
Unreliable speeds - as it requires a line of sight to the satellite rain clouds reduce or completely block signal when in-between the device and satellite.
Which type of network communication commonly uses/adheres to the DOCSIS standard?
Data Over Cable - cable broadband networks use DOCSIS.
Most DSL networks can be described as ADSL networks, why?
Because Digital Subscribe Lines (phoneline internet connections) usually have Asymmetrical (ADSL) download and upload speeds. The download speeds tend to be a lot higher than the upload speeds.
