Cloud Computing - Computer Services over the internet Flashcards
What is cloud computing?
Providing computer services/resources over the internet. Such as storage, processing power, software.
It’s a cost effective way of gaining extra computer services.
What are the 4 types of cloud deployment?
Private (Data Centers), Public (AWS), Hybrid (Private for sensitive data and public for non-critical applications), Shared/Community.
What is cloud deployment?
The process of making services and applications available on the internet/putting them in the cloud.
What are the benefits of cloud deployment/using cloud services?
Scalability/Rapid Elasticity - easily scale up or down in line with demand.
Cost effective. Only pay for what you use/need.
Accessibility - access resources from anywhere.
Enhanced back up and disaster recovery options, high redundancy - cloud providers generally have back up servers/generators/ISP’s etc to prevent downtime for clients.
What is IaaS?
Infrastructure (Hardware) as a Service is the renting out of hardware such as servers, CPU’s, storage drives.
Renting out time on a providers hardware.
What is SaaS?
Software as a Service (SaaS) - the SaaS provider stores all data and manages applications for you. Such as google mail, Microsoft 365 - all apps managed by Microsoft you just have to login and use them.
EVERYTHING DONE BY CLOUD SERVICE - you don’t provide anything (except cash ;))
What is Paas?
Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a platform/base/garage that gives you all the building blocks to make your own applications.
What are metered cloud services?
Where you pay for them as you use them. Pay as you go - like metered electric.
As opposed to non-metered/fixed cost upfront monthly set payment (Dropbox).
What is Desktop as a Service (DaaS)?
Run your windows desktop in the cloud so that you can control it via a phone or other pc remotely.
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure/Desktop as a Service (DaaS)
