Cellular Networking Flashcards
Which telecommunication standard is GSM?
2G - 2nd Generation standard that allows wireless data transmitting across mobile devices. Many users share the same bandwidth.
Does the GSM or CDMA cell standard utilise SIM cards?
GSM uses SIM cards to connect to networks and can therefore be used internationally whereas CDMA is locked to carrier’s and therefore country.
Which cellular standard provides 150Mbit/s and uses EDGE?
4G - LTE (Long Term Evolution) is 150Mbit/s. LTE-A 300Mbit/s
Which was the first standard to provide enough speed to allow for video streaming and GPS?
3G with speeds of around a few Mbit/s made GPS and video streaming possible over cellular networks.
What cell standard allows for (or will eventually) speeds of up to 10Gbit/s?
5G. This will/has had a huge impact on IoT devices capabilities as bandwidth becomes a non-issue at such high throughput.
