Intergovtl body estabd 1989, initiative of G7.
Policy-making body working to generate political will for national legislative and regulatory reforms in various areas. Imposes binding obligations on all UN member states

combat money laundering, terrorist financing. counter financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system.
Comprises 37 member jurisdictions and 2 regional organisations representing most financial centres. more than 200 countries and jurisdictions committed to implementing them.
Blacklist: Country is noncooperative. support terror funding and money laundering activities.
Grey list: country considered safe heaven for supporting terror funding and money laundering. Serves as a warning before entering blacklist.
Considered in the grey list may face:
Economic sanctions from IMF, World Bank, ADB.
Problem in getting loans from IMF, World Bank, ADB and other countries.
Reduction in international trade.
International boycott.

Indian Ocean Conference
Initiated by India Foundation along with its partners from Singapore, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
It is an annual effort to bring together Heads of States/Governments, Ministers, Thought Leaders, scholars, diplomats, bureaucrats and practitioners from across the region.
Indian Ocean is also rich in natural resources. 40% of the world’s offshore oil production takes place in the Indian Ocean basin.
Fishing in the Indian Ocean now accounts for almost 15% of the world’s total.
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is an international financial institution owned by central banks that “fosters international monetary and financial cooperation and serves as a bank for central banks”. The BIS carries out its work through its meetings, programmes and through the Basel Process – hosting international groups pursuing global financial stability and facilitating their interaction.
It also provides banking services, but only to central banks and other international organizations. It is based in Basel, Switzerland.
