Q

What do intelligence tests provide us with? And what two types are there?

A

They provide an intel quotient (IQ)

There are two types of IQ Scores

  1. MENTAL AGE

The first intel tests gauges a persons mental age DIVIDED BY their actual age (chronological age)

IQ = Mental Age / Chron Age X 100

ISSUES are, scores of IQ tests stop changing around 16 yrs of age

“Mental age” method is great for identifying the mental skills for children, not good for adults.

  1. DEVIATION IQ

Is the difference between your performance on an IQ test and the performance of other people the SAME AGE as you

IQ = 100 + Your Score - Age average

Q

What are the common IQ tests for CHILDREN and ADULTS?

A

CHILDREN

  • WPPSI (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence)
  • WISC (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children)

ADULTS

  • WAIS (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale)
  • SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)
  • GRE (Graduate Record Examination)

Different IQ tests are used for different people of diff ages (first 16 yrs for kids), because knowledge acquisition is very quick, so certain types of questions stop becoming meaningful metrics after specific ages for kids.

IQ tests for adults are applicable to adults of ALL age ranges

Q

What is WISC?

A

Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children

Designed to test intel of children ages 6-16

Provides similar metrics to WPPSI, but content questions re different

Perceptual and motor control development tends to end around 7 yrs of age. So many useful questions on the WPPSI become uninformative of development around the age of 7
