Acne Vulgaris
Common and chronic disorder of the sebaceous glands
Laceration
Cut or tear of the skin. Bleeds
Abrasion
Scraping away of the skin- not much bleeding
Puncture
Deep wound- may not bleed much
Incision
Surgical cut- may have stitches, staples or glue
Avulsion
All or part of the skin are missing
MRSA - Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus.
Contagious bacterial infection, resistant to antibiotics. Abscess, boil, sore, Super bug
Albinism
Absence of melanin. Congenital, hereditary, pale skin, white hair, pink eyes, sensitivity to light
Alopecia
Baldness, permanent hair loss, genetic predispostion, males more than females. Normal hair is replaced by a very short hair which is transparent.
Athletes foot
Contagious fungal infection, small blisters between the fingers and most often toes accompanied by cracking and scaling
Dermatitis
General term for inflammation of skin, Rash
Eczema
Noncontagious inflammatory skin disease. Skin is dry, red, itchy, and scaly
Impetigo
Contagious skin disease seen in babies and young children. Appearance of distinct yellow crusts
Psoriasis
Silvery white scales. Chronic inflammatory skin disease
Ringworm
Highly contagious fungal infection, circular patches, raised, itchy with crusts
Urticaria
Hives, Skin condition of itching welts. Elevated with pink area and white center
Carbuncles
Boils, Painful bacterial infection of the hair follicles
Scabies
Communicable bugs that cause severe itching
Rosacea
Chronic redness and irritation to the face, Common inflammatory disorder
Herpes
Viral infecction usually seen as blister
Herpes Simplex
Occurs around the mouth, cold sore
Herpes Zoster
Shingles. Same virus as chicken pox. Skin eruptions due to a virus infection of the nerve endings
Basal Cell Carcinoma
Least Dangerous because it doesn’t grow fast or spread easily
Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Grows slowly but can reach lymph nodes
