Skin Cancer: Benign Tumors: Seborrheic Keratosis
- Proliferation of Basal cells leading to raised lesions
- Typically multiple lesions on trunk of older individuals

- Flat, round or irregular lesions covered by dry scale on sun exposed skin
- Can cause squamous cell carcinoma

- Proliferation of melanocytes
- Can cause melanoma
Skin Cancer: Malignant Tumors: Basal Cell Carcinoma
- Slow growing
- Epithelial basal cell
- Raised patch
- Ivory or reddened area of eczema
- Rolled border
- Indented center
- Thickened area of skin
- Rarely metastasizes
- Common on face in fair skinned individuals
- Associated with prolonged sun exposure

- Margins that are not well defined
- Flat red area
- Ulcer or nodule
- Grows more quickly
- Common on sun exposed areas
- Can be confined or invasive
- Higher risk than basal cell carcinoma to metastasize
- Mucosal and lingual SCC often related to alcohol and tobacco use

- Superficial spreading melanoma most common type

- Family history
- Intense sun exposure
- Fair skin
- Nevi that are changing atypical especially if greater than 50 years of age.

- May have redness beyond the border of the lesion
- Oozing
- Bleeding
- Itching, burning, or pain

- Depends on stage

- May look identical to a harmless mole
- Refer suspicious lesions immediately to a dermatologist

- Lesions of vascular epithelial cell

- Purple/blue or red macule that progress to nodules or ulcers.
- Associated with itching or pain
- Common on LE
- May damage internal structures producing lymphatic obstruction.
