information processing Flashcards
what are the 4 components in the basic information processing diagram
- input
- decision making
- output
- feedback
what order is the basic information processing model in
input —> decision-making —> output —> feedback —> input
define input
the information received from your senses via selective attention
define decision making
the selection of an appropriate response using the information (short term memory?) and what is stored in the long-term (and short term?) memory
define output
the information you send / sent from the brain to your muscles to carry out the response
define feedback
a review of your response this can be intrinsic or extrinsic
OR
information received in response to the output
this can be the input for future decisions
what are the 3/2 different ways of feedback
- intrinsic - kinaesthetic (feeling)
- extrinsic
define intrinsic feedback
information a performer receives within (thoughts and emotions)
define kinaesthetic feedback
received by receptors in the muscle - physical sensations generated by movement are felt by the performer so are a form of intrinsic feedback
define extrinsic feedback
information a performer receives about their performance from outside themselves (coach)
define skill
a learnt action/behaviour, with the intention of bringing about pre-determined results, with maximum certainty and minimum outlay of time and energy
define ability
inherited, stable traits that determine an individuals potential to learn/acquire a skill
define a basic skill
skills with a little or limited information to process; few decisions needed e.g. walking, running
define a complex skill
lots of information to process or decisions to be made e.g. tackle in rugby, interception in netball
define an open skill
movement or skill affected by the environment (opponents, teammates, weather) e.g. tackle in hockey, interception in netball
define a closed skill
movement or skill unaffected by the environment (has little impact) e.g. 100m sprint
