information processing Flashcards
paper 2
1
Q
what is information processing?
A
- where you make decisions based on gathering information from your senses, such as what you see and hear
- you prioritise the important stimuli to make a suitable decision
2
Q
what are the 4 components on the information processing model?
A
input- decision making-output-feedback
3
Q
what is input and how is it achieved?
A
- it is the information received from your senses
- uses SELECTIVE ATTENTION- is when you focus on the important stimuli/information.
- such as blocking out the noise from the crowd, and instead only focus on the speed and direction of the ball
4
Q
what is decision making and how is it achieved?
A
- the selection of appropriate responses using the information and what is stored in the long-term memory
- uses long term and short term memory
- long term- information that has been rehearsed and stored for future reference. the more its practised, the more information stored
- short term- only lasts for a few seconds- it is working memory you use while completing a skill
5
Q
what is output and how is it carried out?
A
the information you send to your muscles to carry out the response
6
Q
what is feedback and how is it carried out?
A
- a review of your response this can be intrinsic and extrinsic
- intrinsic- is within the performer, and taken from how the skill felt based on feedback from muscles.
- extrinsic- feedback from an outside source such as a coach and is based on how the skill looked.
