what causes inflammation?
physical chemical insult, infectious agent, antigen
what are the clinical features of inflammation?
redness, heat, swelling, pain, loss of function
what causes redness?
vasodilation
what causes Heat on the site of inflammation?
vasodilation and fever
what causes swelling?
fluid in the extracellular matrix
what causes pain?
pain mediators such as bradykinin and serotonin
what cells are the first responders to damage?
neutrophils
what are recruited after neutrophils?
macrophages and monocytes
how do maturing monocytes work?
they phagocytose pathogens and kill then with acidic lysosomes. also important in the repair process and restore tissue homeostasis
