Probability

A

-Standard probability level = 5% or less due to chance

‘p’ stands for probability in psychology

May need stricter probability level e.g. 0.01 when testing for a new drug

Significance

A

If findings are significant we accept the alternative, reject the null

If findings are not significant we accept the null, reject the alternative

How to find significance

A

If the stats test has an ‘r’ in the name, it needs to be greater than or equal to the critical value

Model answer formula:
The observed value (…) is greater/ less than critical value (…), so the results are / non significant
Because, for this test, the observed (…) had to be greater/ less than the critical (…)
So, the researcher would accept/ reject their (….) hypothesis
