Privacy
May be difficult to respect privacy in studies e.g. Field experiments
People don’t expect to be observed by others in certain situations e.g. in own home, may expect more in public places e.g. park bench
Confidentiality
Ensuring P’s remain anonymous in studies e.g. don’t include identifiable traits and use pseudonyms
Deception
May need deception or P’s guess aims and show social desirability bias
Cannot give informed consent
Ethics committee should approve deception, debrief P’s after study, gain retrospective consent
Right to Withdraw
P’s should be aware can withdraw results at any time in study
Shouldn’t persuade/ coerce P’s to continue
Give contact details e.g. email so can withdraw results after study
Informed Consent
P’s have to know true aims to give informed consent - May be told in debrief to gain retrospective consent
Better if P’s consent with written document rather than verbal consent
Protection from Harm
P’s shouldn’t experience more harm than in everyday life
Harm can be psychological (Embarrassment, distressed)
Or physical (Shocks etc..)
