2
Q

there are two viral genotypes. why do we care

A

we used to think one caused neuro CS but new studies show that both cause neuro signs

3
Q

4
Q

how does EHV cause neuro signs

A

it results in vasculitis to the vessels in the brain and spinal cord. theres also virus induced alterations in the coagulation cascade causing ischemia and necrosis

Q

what is our antiviral ehv treatment. when do we use it

prevents replication. give if theres a clinical outbreak and not clinical. give it before CNS signs

who gets bacti meninigitis

A

FPT foals
adults with autoimmune issues, lymphoma

24
Q

CS of bacti meningitis

lyme disease clinical signs

A

none, to CN signs, ataxia, fever, neck pain, lameness, mild neuro signs, uveitis

28
Q

what does testing tell us

A

dont test in the absence of clinical signs.

how to diagnose lyme disease

A

a diagnosis of exclusion
