infects the whole thickness of epidermis and dermis
how deep does necrotising fasciitis infect the skin layers?
infects all layers of the skin own to the hypodermis
what are the most common type of bacteria which cause infection of soft tissue and skin?
grampositive cocci
streptococci (group A strep)
staphylococcus aureus
what type of bacteria are these bacteria: E-coli, klebsiella spp; pseudomonas spp; proteus spp; salmonella spp?
gram negative bacteria - often cause UTIs - vey rare cause of SSTIs
what is an example of a group A strep bacteria?

radiology (ie X rays)
wound expiration/exposure
what are two things you would do for wound exploration in the management of anima bites?
irrigate and debridement of the wound = source control
delay the closure of the wound - try and prevent it from spreading
which antibiotic should never be used for antibiotic MONOTHERAPY for animal bites?
erythromycin or clindamycin
what are some mild antibiotics used to treat antibiotics?
co-amoxyclav (combination of drugs)
doxycycline and metronidazole
clindamycin and ciproflaxin
what are some severe antibiotic treatments for animal bites?
co-amoxyclav
meropenemand clindamycin
how long would you give antibiotics for a cellulitis infection?
7-10 days
how long would you give antibiotics for a tenosynovitis infection?
21 days
how long would you give antibiotics for septic arthritis?
28 days
