Birth to one month-
Birth to one month-Gains 4-5 oz/wk -holds hand in fist -Draw arms and legs to body when crying -startling and rooting reflexes present alert to high pitch noises -prefers to look at faces and black and white designs
2 to 4 months-
2 to 4 months-gains 4-5 ounces/wk
- head circumference increases 1.5cm (1/2in)/ month
- posterior fontanelle closes
- ingests 120ml/kg/day
- able to hold rattle when placed on hand
- plays with fingers
- brings head to midline
- moro reflex fades
- can turn side to back and return
- decrease in head lag when pulled to sitting position
- sits with head held at midline with some bobbling
- when prone, able to hold head and supports weight on forearm
4-6 months
4-6 months-teeth begin to develop at 6 months
-ingests 100 ml/kg/day
-can grasp rattle and other objects at will
-drops objects to pick them back up
puts objects and feet in mouth
able to hold bottle using palms of the hand
-manipulates objects
-head held steady when sitting
-turn from abdomen to back by 4 months and then back to the abdomen by 6 months
-When held to standing, is able to support most of their own weight
-examines visual images
-watches falling objects
-Gains 85 to 140g (3 to 5oz)/week
-grows one cm (3/8in)/ month
-growth rate slower than first 6 months
-Bangs objects held in hands
- transfer objects from one hand to the other
-Beginning pincer grasp at times
-Most inborn reflexes extinguished
Sits alone without any help by 8 months
-likes to bounce on legs when held in standing position -responds readily to sounds
-recognizes own name and responds by looking and smiling
-Enjoys small and complex objects at play
6-8 months
- Gains 85-140g (3 to 5oz)/week
- grows one cm (3/8in)/ month
- picking up small objects
- Uses pincer grasp well
- Crawls or pulls whole body along the floor by arms
- creeps by using hands and knees to keep trunk off floor
- Pulls self to standing and sitting by 10 months
- Recovers balance when sitting Understands words such as “no” and “cracker”
- May say one word in addition to “mama” and “dada”
8-10 months
- Gains 85-140g (3 to 5oz)/week
- grows one cm (3/8in)/ month
- head circumference equals chest circumference
- triples birth weight by 1 year
- may hold paper or pencil and make a mark on paper
- places objects into containers through holes -stands alone
- walks holding onto furniture
- sits down from standing Plays peek-a-boo and patty cake
10-12 months
