Steps to place an ET tube (6)
A
- Select ET tube
- Premeasure length & diameter
- Check inflation of cuff
- Check cleanliness of tube
- Lube end of tube with small amount of sterile lube
- Position patient, commonly sternal recumbency

Steps when actively placing ET tube (5)
A
- Place mouth gag in place (lidocaine if needed)
- Gently pull Pt tongue out with gauze pad
- Depress epiglottis with the tip of laryngoscope blade or ET tube.
- Pass ET tube thru glottis & into trachea until tip of tube us midway between larynx & thoracic inlet.
- Tie ET tube into place with gauze
