Brown Recluse Spider Bite (4)

  1. Local reaction with mild itching or stinging at time of bite (not systemic); bite is painless
  2. Pain starts 2-8h after bite with redness around puncture and a central pustule or blister
  3. Swelling, itching, tenderness and red vesicle 12-24h later
  4. Black star shaped bite with central necrosis and edema

  1. No local s/s
  2. Severe muscle cramping beginning from 10min-1hour after bite; cramping in abd, flank, thighs, chest
  3. Sweating, irritability, n/v
  4. CNS w/ HA, anxiety, salivation, lacrimation, sweating and HTN
  5. Mortality in 50% of young children

Scorpion Bite (3)

A
  1. Severe local and painful burning sensation with redness discoloration and edema with necrosis
  2. Systemic rxn: restless, hyperactive, abnormal eye movements, facial twitching, increased salivation, diaphoresis, resp. paralysis
  3. Death from pulm. edema, shock, or resp. failure
