The inclusion strategy report march 2016 identified common themes to a wide range of organisations that need to be addressed
What were the key themes?
1/Addressing unconscious bias ( institutional racism, sexism, homophobia) ignorance
2/ reflecting service users ( clients) vital
3/ proactive recruitment strategies
4/ mentoring individuals, educating managers
5/ effective comms in dispersed workforces
6/ flexibility and openness to staff suggestions
7/ workforces encouraged to reflect their authentic selves are happier and more productive.
What is the draft inclusion strategy 2016
A proposed 10 year strategy that recognises the Brigades Excellence over the last 10 years in inclusion but identifies key themes where improvements can be made.
The draft strategy recommends to Members a “step-change” through 6 strategic objectives.
What are they?
1/ develop an inclusive culture
2/ political & professional leadership to the inclusion agenda
3/ support our colleagues
4/ recruit, retain, support, promote a diverse workforce
5/ deliver service to diverse communities
6/ use positive purchasing power.
What strategy does the report state will be its primary intervention in dealing with bullying and harassment?
Mediation ( where all parties agree) use an independent 3rd party. Hoped early intervention will resolve the problems and prevent escalation
The inclusion strategy will run across a number of departments, how will this be managed and what will their three key roles be?
The Inclusion Board. Set up and chaired by the Commissioner. Meeting quarterly in first year
Key areas:
1/ oversee delivery and review of action plan
2/ monitor outcomes delivered
3/ act as a forum for representative bodies, support groups and to engage with strategic managers.
What are the strategic objectives
Develop inclusive culture
The Brigade has an equalities strategy in 1996. What was this based on and what replaced it.
Based on the :
1/ Sex discrimination act 1975
2/ Race Relations act 1976
3/ Disability Discrimination Act 1996.
These three acts were unified under the Equality Act 2010
