High Rise Flashcards
What are the requirements of Building Regulation for high rise buildings.
1/ All buildings OVER 18m to have provisions for firefighting and firefighter access. May include: (i) firefighting shaft (ii) dry/wet riser (iii) fire lift.
Buildings over 60m require wet risers
And as of 2006 those over 50m.
What are the capacities of DRMs and WRMs
DRM= At least 1500 litres /min
WRM= designed to supply 1500 l/min for minimum 45 minutes.
What does the F.I.R.E tool roll contain
1/ riser outlet wheel 2/ adjustable spanner 3/ mole grips 4/ rubber hose washers 5/ door marker tags and crayons 6/ door stoppers.
List the equipment to be taken to the bridgehead.
ASAP.
1/2 x 45mm with carry strap 2/IEC pack 3/2x BA sets4/ long line 5/ breaking in gear 6/ BA board 7/ TIC 8/ F.I.R.E bag
What are the contents of the FIRE bag
1/ controlled dividing breaching 2/ 3 x Hose id sleeves 3/ 1 Deltafire Quick attack branch 4/ set of lift access keys 5/ fire tool roll.
List the equipment to be taken to the bridgehead to augment the initial equipment.
1/ enough hose for 2 lines to reach the affected area 2/ additional branch 3/ bracket for BA board 4/ access keys/codes 5/ Floor plans if available 6/ FIB.
What considerations if bridgehead is to be repositioned
1/ IC, all officers, BA teams notified 2/All BA teams to adjust turn around time3/consider immediate withdrawal of all BA but balance decision with task urgency 4/ Emergency team must be established 5/All info and resources moved to new location 6/Consider stageii 7/ consider alternative methods of rescue.
When can “high rise procedure implemented” be sent
1/ Location of bridgehead has been risk assessed and is appropriate
2/ Access and egress to/from bridgehead secured and maintained
3/ bridgehead established 2 jets deployed.
What should be in a firefighting shaft according to BS9999.
Firefighting stairs
Firefighting lobby with W/DRM
Firefighting lift
Additionally May have some form of ventilation.
Describe a firefighting lift
- Not < 8 persons
- Carry up to 850Kg
- Independent electric supply
- Firemans switch
What are the minimum features required when assessing a lift suitable for a firefighting lift.
- Primary and secondary power supply
- water protection measures (IP rated wiring)
- Ff recall switch
- Ff in-car controls
- Ff comms system
- Floor indicators
Describe WRMs
•> 60m prior to 2006 4-5 bar
•>50m there after @ 8 bar
•1500 lpm for 45 mins
•Tank and 2 automatic pumps(1active 1 standby) tank fed by mains
• tanks have automatic warnings when low level reached
• high pressures-> some fitted with pressure reduction valves at outlets
• new WRMs should have isolating valves (every 10m)
•
What buildings require water suppression systems
Since 2006 all residential buildings over 30m.
Ideally where should the controlled dividing breaching be placed.
Directly into the DRM outlet on the floor below the fire.
Only one breaching per DRM.
Where should the 2nd jet be taken from.
Outlet on fire floor.
If this is not available then the second outlet of the breaching can be used
