What is kismet?
A machine that has living characteristics, but it not really living
What is a living thing called?
An organism
What are all of the characteristics of living things?
Need to have cellular organization, contain similar chemicals, use energy, respond to their surroundings, grow, develop and reproduce
What is a cell?
The basic unit of structure and function of an organism
What is a unicellular organism?
A single celled organism that is responsible for carrying out all of the functions that need to stay alive
What is a multicellular organism?
Organism’s that are composed of many cells
What are the “chemicals of life”?

What is response?
When an organism reacts to a stimulus, a change in behavior
What is asexual reproduction?
Only one parent and produces offspring that are identical to the parent
What is sexual reproduction?
Two parents combing their genetic materials to produce a new organism that differs from both parents
Where do living things come from?

What is spontaneous generation?
The idea that living things can arise from non-living things
What was Redi’s experiment and how did he do it?
He proved that spontaneous generation did not exist by covering one meat jar and opening the other and showing that flies came to the meat not meat created flies
