2-2 lesson AYU 10/26/16 Flashcards
Cell wall
A rigid layer that surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms
Cell membrane
Controls which substances pass in and out of a cell
Nucleus
The cells control center/brain
Organelles
Tiny cell structures that carry out specific functions within a cell
Chromatin
strands of material that fill the nucleus, containing information for directing a cells functions
Ribosomes
Small grain shaped organelles that produce proteins
Cytoplasm
Fills the region between the cell membrane and the nucles
Nucleolus
The small round structure inside of the nucleus
Mitochondria
convert energy stored in food to energy the cell can use to live and function
endoplasmic reticulum (ER)
An organelle with a network of membranes that produces many substances
Golgi apparatus
Receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the ER, packages them and distributes them to other parts of the cell
Vacuole
A water filled sac floating in the cytoplasm
Chloroplast
Captures energy from sunlight and makes it form energy for cells
Tissue
A group of similar organisms that work together to form a function
Organ
Made of different kinds of tissues that function together
