How did the Power of the President grow in regards to the declaration of war?
The power to go to war and create treaties without Congress approval grew in part due to NATO and the UN, the US had become the sole challenger to the USSR and therefore, needed a strong president.
What did the 1947 National Security Act do in regards to the armed forces?
It reorganized the armed forces so that they were under the Control of a new Defense Department based in the Pentagon. The Armed forces expanded massively and the President was Commander in Chief.
What else did the National Security Act 1947 create?
It created the National Defense Council as well as the CIA which both reported directly to the president rather than to Congress.
What powers did the President have in regards to nuclear conflict?
The President had the power to respond and react quickly to possible enemy attack without the approval of Congress.
In what ways did Truman use the armed forces without the approval of Congress?
He implemented the Berlin Airlift in 1948, he also moved troops into South Korea and established a number of military bases across the globe all without congress support.
How did Kennedy use the armed forces without Congress approval?
He did not inform Congress about his Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961 but did not face significant backlash for his actions.
