A

The Democrats still had 2/3 rule in place meaning that any potential nominee struggled to reach the threshold. 103 ballots were done before Davis eventually won. They had connections with the KKK and created a society which was highly xenophobic and isolationist.

A

Although he followed similar Laissez Faire ideals he also aimed to restore trust and dignity in the Republican Party as a key part of why he won the election was due to the Democrats struggling to select a candidate.
