What are the factors for motivation according to Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory?
Motivator (recognition, responsibility, opportunities for advancement,etc.) and Hygiene (salary, working conditions, company policies, etc.) factors
What are the five types of powers an individual/group can have?
Legitimate, Referent, Expert, Reward, Coercive
What is legitimate power?
It is based on the formal authority granted to someone by the organization’s hierarchy.
What is referent power?
It is based on the interpersonal relationships and connections that an individual has with others.
What is expert power?
It comes from possessing specialised knowledge, skills or expertise that others value and respect.
What is reward power?
It is based on an individual’s ability to provide rewards or incentives to others in exchange for compliance or cooperation.
What is coercive power?
It is based on the ability to impose penalties, punishments or negative consequences on others for non-compliance or resistance.
What types of informal groups are there?
Interest (working together to achieve a specific objective which is not determined by the organisation) and friendship
What types of formal groups are there?
Command (characterised by functional reporting relationships)and task (established to complete a job task which may involve cooperation across different functional areas)
Why do people join groups?
Power, self-esteem, status, security, affiliation, goal achievement
What are the five stages of group development?
Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, Adjourning
What are the group-decision making techniques?
Nominal Group (Structure) and Brainstorming (Unstructured)
What are the advantages of group decision making?
