what 6 factors are secreted by endothelium?
prostacyclin, nitric oxide, tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), thrombomodulin, platelet activating factor (PAF), von- willebrand factor
what is polycythaemia?
above normal level of RBC (increase in RBC or decrease in plasma)
what does PAS stain?
hexose sugars
what does haemotoxylin stain?
nuclei and RNA
what does eosin stain?
colloidal proteins (e.g. plasma proteins) and keratin
what does alcian blue stain?
GAG-rich structures, mucous goblet cells, mast cell granules, cartilage matrix
where is pseudo stratified columnar epithelium found?
trachea, large airways (as respiratory epithelium), urinary tract
where is stratified squamous keratinising epithelium found?
skin
where is stratified squamous non-keratinising epithelium found?
mouth, oropharynx, oesophagus, vagina
where is simple columnar epithelium found?
small intestine, gall bladder, bronchus
where is simple squamous epithelium found?
alveoli and serosa
where is simple cuboidal epithelium found?
kidney tubules, ducts of glands (sweat, salivary, pancreatic)
