anatomy of the liver, gallbladder and pancreas Flashcards
what does the liver develop in?
ventral mesentery- goes on to form lesser omentum
where is the bare area of the liver?
under the central tendon to the right side of the diaphragm
what is the epiploic foramen?
entrance to the lesser sac
what forms the posterior wall of the epiploic foramen?
IVC
what is the falciform ligament?
- embryonic remnant derived from ventral mesentery
- attaches liver to anterior abdominal wall
what is the hepatogastric ligament?
folds of peritoneum connecting the liver to the stomach
what is the hepatoduodenal ligament?
folds of peritoneum connecting liver to duodenum
what do the right triangular, left triangular, anterior coronary and posterior coronary connect the liver to?
diaphragm
what is ligamentum venousum a remnant of?
ductus venosum
what divides the right and left lobes of the liver?
fossae for the gallbladder and the IVC
what is the quadrate lobe bound by?
fissure for ligamentum teres and fossa for the gallbladder
what does the lesser omentum connect?
liver to the lesser curvature of the stomach and the first part of the duodenum
what is ligamentum teres a remnant of?
umbilical vein
what is the caudate lobe bound by?
ligamentum venosum and the groove for the IVC
where is the gallbladder located?
between the right lobe and quadrate lobe of the liver
what is the ampulla of Vater?
- formed by the joining of the common bile duct and the pancreatic duct
- drains into the major duodenal papilla
- drainage controlled by sphincter of Oddi
in which region of the peritoneum is the pancreas?
mostly retroperitoneal- apart from part of the tail
where does the pancreatic duct begin?
tail of the pancreas
where does the accessory duct of the pancreas drain?
minor duodenal papilla
why are there 2 pancreatic ducts?
- embryology
- one from the ventral pancreatic bud and one from the dorsal pancreatic bud
