Imaging of the Abdomen Flashcards
Describe the characteristics of a CT
Radiation
Fast (less than 5 min)
Good look at solid organs, fat planes
best spatial resolution
Excellent for calcification (renal stones)
Limited detail for pelvic organs
Describe the characteristcs of an MRI
No radiation
Not very fast (20 min)
Good for characterization of lesions
Bad tissue resolution
Not good for calcification (renal stones)
Excellent for pelvic organs
What technique would you use to treat problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts?
Edoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
What is superior mesenteric artery syndrome?
Digestive condition when 3rd part of duodenum is compressed between aorta and SMA

A diverticular formation in the esophageal wall
Causes trapping of food and severe halitosis
What is ulcerative colitis?
“lead pipe” appearance of long standing ulcerative colitis due to spasm of longitudinal muscles and/or irreversible fibrosis
Loss of haustral markings
What type of procedure would you use to check out cholelithiasis?
Ultrasonography
