What is needed for diagnosis using Duke criteria?

A

2 major or 1 major and 3 minor or 5 minor for definite diagnosis

What are some peripheral stigmata of IE?

A

Petechiae
Splinter haemorrhages
Osler nodes (tender, purple subcut on pulp of digits)
Janeway lesions- non tender macular lesions on palms/soles/fingers
Roth spots on fundoscopy

How is IE managed?

A

STREP: Penecillin, Amox and Cef for 4 weeks (AMox and gent in penecillin allergy)
STAPH: Flucloxacillin, Gentamycin (+/- Rifampicin in prosthesis)
