Fatty atheromatous deposits (Stenosis) (atheroma) and schlerosis (stiffening of vessels- HTN)

What should you check when starting statins
LFTs
When should you check LFTs in statins?
within 3 months of starting and again at 12 months
What do statins do?
Reduce non HDL lipids
Check for reduction at 3 months
What is used for medical secondary prevention of CV diease (after an event)?
Aspirin (plus second antiplatelet)
Atorvastatin
Atenolol or other BB
ACEi
What are side effects of statins?
Myopathy (CK if muscle pain)
T2DM
Haemorrhagic strokes (rare)
