Ida Jean Orlando: Theory of Deliberative Nursing Process Flashcards
Major Dimensions of Orlando’s Nursing Process Theory:
Professional Nursing Function- organizing principle.
The patient’s presenting behavior- problematic situation
Immediate reaction-internal response.
Deliberative Nursing Process-Reflective Inquiry
Improvement- Resolution
The nurse’s unique function is finding out and meeting the patient’s immediate needs for help.
Professional Nursing Function organizing principle
To find out the immediate need for help the nurse must first recognize the situation as problematic.
The patient’s presenting behavior problematic situation
The reaction comprises the nurse’s perceptions, thoughts about the perceptions, and the feelings evoked from the thoughts; they cannot be controlled.
Immediate reaction-internal response.
When the patient’s immediate need for help has been determined and met, there is improvement.
Improvement-Resolution
a developmental being with needs
Person
– is responsive to individuals who suffer or anticipate a sense of helplessness
Nursing
assumed that a nursing situation occurs when there is N -P contact & both of them perceive, think, feel & act in the immediate situation.
Environment
assumed that freedom from mental or physical discomfort & feelings of inadequacy & well-being contribute to health.
Health t
- The Deliberative Nursing Process has five stages these are ____
Assessment, Diagnoses, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation. (ADPIE)
the nurse completes a holistic assessment of the patient’s needs. The nurse uses a nursing framework to collect both subjective and objective data about the patient.
Assessment stage
uses the nurse’s clinical judgment about health problems.
Diagnosis stage
addresses each of the problems identified in the diagnosis. Each problem is given a specific goal or outcome, and each goal or outcome is given a nursing intervention to help achieve the goal. By the end of this stage, the nurse will have a nursing care plan.
Planning stage
, the nurse begins using a Nursing Care Plan (NCP).
Implementation stage
, the nurse looks at the progress of the patient toward the goals set in the nursing care plan. Changes can be made in the nursing care plan based on how well ( or poorly) the patient is progressing toward the goals set in the
Evaluation stage
