Panic Disorder Model
Clarks Model:
Thought/sensation - anxiety - physical sensation - catastrophic interpretation of sensation - amplification of sensation and anxiety - hypervigialnce!
We maintain it through selective attention to bodily event, in situation safety behaviours and avoidance!
Generalised Anxiety Disorder
1-5% of population
Often present with physical manifestations
Excessive and uncontrollable worry about future events and outcomes
Phobias defined by 3 features
Irrational fear
Realisation fear is irrational
Desire to avoid object
acquisition and maintenance of phobias
Classical conditioning causing acquisition
Negatively reinforced maintenance as they avoid the evnt
Vicarious acquisition
Strong association between parent and child fears
Biological preparedness
E.g. if you get sick after eating chicken you avoid it
CBT Social Anxiety Model
Interlinks thought, emotions, behaviour and physical sensations! Known as currant bun molecule
Systematic Desensitisation
A form of behavioural therapy, uses graded exposure to the featured object. We oppose fear with relaxation training and make a hierarchy of fear! chose between the in vitro (imagined exposure) or in vivo (actual exposure)
