What is a hypothesis?
Clear, precise,testable statement written at beginning of investigation that states relationship between variables being investigated
What are the 2 types of hypothesis
-Alternative hypothesis(experimental hypothesis)

States that there is a relationship between 2 variables being studied
What is a null hypothesis?
States there is no relationship between 2 variables being studied
What is another name for directional hypothesis
One-tailed
What is another name for non-directional hypothesis
Two tailed
What is a directional hypothesis
Researcher makes it clear which direction results will go in
When is a directional hypothesis used?
When previous research suggests a direction
What is a non-directional hypothesis?
Researcher states there will be a difference but does not specify direction on results
When is a non-directional hypothesis used?
-previous research inconclusive
What is a pilot study
Small-scale trial of a study to find aspects that don’t work
What is a confederate
Individual in study who is not a real participant but behaves like an instructor
