Hypothalamus And ANS Flashcards
Hypothalamus
Part of the brain that controls homeostasis by controlling ANS, endocrine and motivational systems and it regulates body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure
ANS
An involuntary system that controls/coordinates functioning of organs, smooth and cardiac muscle and exocrine glands
Sympathetic
Part of ANS that organizes fight, flight and stress reactions
Parasympathetic
part of ANS that organizes rest and digest
Adrenal Medulla
In emergency or high stress, sympathetic signals this to release epinephrine
Release of Epinephrine
Causes increase HR and BP in seconds, general vasoconstriction and decreased blood flow to most organs, but increased blood flow to skel musc and increases blood glucose, mental activity, rate of coagulation and sweating
