Q

What is insulins role in control of glucose levels?

A

Hi concentration glucose detected by beta cells stimulates insulin secretion by beta cells down the bloodstream and stimulates glucose facilitated transport into muscle and fat and storage in liver and that lowers concentration glucose in the blood (lowers glucose level)

Q

What is glucagons role in control of glucose levels?

A

Low concentration of glucose in blood detected by alpha cells increases glucagon secretion by alpha cells which moves through the bloodstream into the liver stimulating membrane receptors that are activated by glycogen phosphorylates that break down liver glycogen and release glucose into the blood (raises glucose level)
