Human Systems-Circulation and Respiration Flashcards
What does the circulatory system consist of?
The heart (the pump), Blood vessels (the pipes) and Blood (the liquid).
What does the circulatory transport around the body (except blood)?
Oxygen and Glucose.
What happens to the Oxygen in our blood? And where does it go?
The oxygen in our blood is dropped off to be used in respiration. It is then picked from the cells in the blood which then deliver it back to the alveoli.
The bronchi are divided into small tubes called what?
They divide into Bronchioles which eventually get to the alveoli (air sacs).
What is the trachea?
The windpipe-it leads from the nose and mouth to the two bronchi.
What is the bronchus?
Tube leading from the trachea to a lung.
What do the lungs do?
They contain gas exchange surfaces.
What is the bronchiole?
Smaller tubes inside the lungs leading from the bronchus to the alveoli.
What are the alveoli?
They are tiny air sacs at the end of bronchioles, where gas exchange happens.
What are the ribs.
They are a moveable cage to enclose and protect the lungs.
What are the intercoastal muscles?
They allow the ribcage to change in volume for ventilation to happen.
What does the diaphragm do?
It works with the intercoastal muscles to allow ventilation to happen.
What movement do the intercoastal muscles do when inhaling?
Contract.
What movement do the intercoastal muscles do when exhaling?
Relax.
What movement do the ribs do when inhaling?
Move up and out.
