the skills needed to comunicate and interact with eachother in a positive way
socialisation
the process of learning the rules and expectations of society, learning and practicing the necessary social skills.
primary socialisation
in infancy
first occurs within the family
where values, beliefs and attitudes are formed
secondary socialisation
socialise in setting outside of home
play with other children
interact with other adults
places to socialise
church - meet people with similar beliefs
community centre - different activities for you to go to
health centre - meet other parents with children the same age
local park - go on walks and meet new people
unoccupied play
birth - 3 months
babies occupy themselves by moving their limbs
doesn’t involve them engaging with anyone else
solitary play
birth - 2 years
this is when a baby or toddler play alone
dont seem to notice others playing nearby
onlooker play
2 years
toddlers will sit and watch others play
may ask questions but make no effort to join in
parallel play
2+ years
a toddler plays alongside another child but will not involve them in their play
associete play
3 - 4 years
play together but no common goal
become more aware of eachother rather than the toys
important step in learing how to work together and share
co-operative
4+ years
child will have interest in others around them
play starts to become more formalised
this is when children learn social skills
why can’t you behave exactly how you want
as we mature we understand we have to conform to society’s standards and behaviour and want to belong
