What are predictors of violence?
Male age 15-24, low socioeconomic status, poor social support
What is projective identification?
The primitive defense mechanism in which a person projects his/her own unconscious feelings into another. The other person then identifies with the projected emotion and begins to behave in the manner dictated by the projected emotion.
What is malingering?
Intentional production of medical or psychiatric complaints in the hope of some secondary gain (e.g. getting out of work or prison)
What is factitious disorder?
The intentional production of medical or psychiatric complaints to get the patient some kind of primary gain (usually getting to fulfill the cared-for role of a patient).
What is echopraxia?
The mimicking of the examiner’s body posture and movements by the patient. Can be seen in chronic schizophrenia.
What is dereistic thinking?
An old descriptive term used to refer to thinking not in accordance with the facts of reality and experience and following illogical, idiosyncratic reasoning. The term emphasizes disconnection from reality.
What is echolalia?
The repetition of the examiner’s words or phrases by the patient.
What is fugue?
The taking on of a new identity with no memory of the old one. It often involves travel to a new environment.
What is temporal lobe epilepsy personality?
Characterized by hyposexuality, emotional intensity, and viscosity (a peculiar perseverative approach to interactions with others - pursue even small points of discussion).
What personality traits do patients with Kluver-Bucy syndrome demonstrate?
Hypersexuality, placidity, constantly shifting attention, and a tendency to put everything in the pt’s mouth.
What symptoms does damage to the amygdala cause?
Inability to recognize fear or anger in others, with retained ability to see happiness and sadness.
Low concentrations of what chemical in the CSF is predictive of suicidal behavior?
Low 5-HIAA (a metabolite of serotonin)
What are the criteria for diagnosis of somatic symptom disorder?
Somatic symptoms that are distressing or significantly disrupt daily life for at least 6 months
What is the minimum time period of behavior for a diagnosis of transvestic disorder?
6 months
