HR and its management importance
crucial to a business success
management involves the setting of objectives in the same way that other functional areas of the business require them
setting clear objectives
necessary because the people element is an element to every functional area to the business and what its trying to achieve
they need to be governed by the business’ overall objectives
without these clear objectives, managers are likely to find themselves with a lack of employees with the right skills to carry out the work - increased overtime working
- using agency staff
- work might not get done at all
people importance
as the most valuable asset
without the right people being properly trained and motivated then work is not performed effectively and stops progress towards achieving objectives
failure to set objectives
could mean a breach of the law (parental leave for both birth parents when a baby is born)

- opportunity cost if they had complied i.e. more attracted to work for them
managers adopting a clear strategy for HR management
important as the business environment is DYNAMIC and changes constantly

meeting the needs of the business
workforce needs to be effective and efficient
= need for workers to have appropriate skill level
= need for correct number of employees
