How We Learn Flashcards
Skinners operant conditioning
~punishment doesn’t teach the correct behaviour in a given condition
~harsh punishment especially physical, teaches agressive behaviour
~Harsh punishment is often ineffective at producing behaviour change
~Harsh punishment often leads to negative emotional reactions
Alternatives to physical punishment
~ time out
~ restitution ; the child has to give something up
~ fines ; the child has to pay a fine (swear jar)
~ loss of privileges (being grounded)
Banderas social leaning therory is about
Learning through observation and imitation of others behaviour (children see children do)
Social learning theory steps
- Attention; observers must fist pay attention to the models behavior
- Retention in memory; observers must retain a cognitive representation/memory of the behavior
- Reproduction of the behavior; use their stored memory of the behavior too reproduce that behavior
- Motivation; the observer must be motivated to actually execute the behavior
Fixed ratio schedule
Schedule of reinforcement… organism is rewarded every xth of the time (consistent reward)
Variable ratio schedule
Schedule of reinforcement… varied reward
Fixed interval schedule
Organism is rewarded for the first desired response every xth interval of time
Variable interval schedule
Rewarded in an average xth interval of time
